The nature of pollution, heat generation and humidity in an industrial environment can not be compared with residential spaces. A ventilation system must therefore be specifically equipped according to the type of process and infrastructure. The targeted capture of odorous and / or contaminated vapours, a logical piping and a correct estimate of the required ventilation rate contribute to the reduction of diffuse emissions and increase the efficiency of a ventilation system. Evacuation of odour components, pollutants or water vapours uses a ventilation system. To ensure sufficient efficiency, the different components of the ventilation system should function in a complementary manner. However, this principle is not always implemented when installing ventilation systems. In a ventilation audit, the state or the need for a ventilation system is evaluated according to the odour and / or exposure problem. Each part of the system is critically reviewed, such as the local and global exhaust methods, the positioning and capacity of fans, the condition of pipelines and treatment techniques. Additionally, the internal air flow patterns are examined by means of smoke tests and temperature profiling.
If a ventilation system becomes necessary or adjustments are required due to the changing nature of the sources, a (re)new(ed) concept will be proposed. An examination is performed on how the different components should be configured. For the realization of a new concept, OLFASCAN has the required calculation tools for the correct dimensioning of each component.
After adaptation or implementation of the concept, OLFASCAN also provides support for maintenance and follow-up of the ventilation system. By monitoring the physical parameters, the state of the system can be evaluated on a frequent basis and, if necessary, the system can be further optimized.
Depending on the production process, the indoor climate (local or total space) can be experienced as negative by staff due to extreme temperatures, temperature stratifications, high humidity or a combination of both. In the food sector, condensation (on walls, ceilings, surfaces) or fog can occur under these conditions where it must absolutely be avoided due to hygienic requirements. To find out how often the indoor air is refreshed in an industrial space, a ventilation rate measurement can be performed. A non-toxic tracer gas is introduced into the room and then the course of the concentration in the room is monitored for some time. The ventilation rate of the room is calculated from the speed of the descent and the volume of the room.
