Commissioned by the Dutch POV (Producers Organization for Pig Farming), OLFASCAN, in collaboration with ILVO, carried out a literature study on the possible relationships between pig farms and the health of local residents. The possible health effects of ammonia, particulate matter and endotoxins were discussed. The research revealed, among other things, that there is still much uncertainty about the spread and risk of endotoxins in the air. Setting up a testing framework for endotoxins is still a challenge.
